Content

Cost-utility and budget impact analyses were performed to estimate the costs of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation compared to blood transfusions combined with iron chelating therapy (BT-ICT), The results found that the provision for HSCT for severe thalassemic patients was likely to be costeffective when provided to younger patients. The government budget impact demonstrated that the providing of HSCT would eventually result in lower government expenditure than ongoing BT-ICT.
