Highlights

  • By reviewing 120 Target Product Profiles (TPPs), this study identified key aspects of TPP development processes, stakeholder involvement, common themes, major limitations, and priorities for follow-up research.
  • Health technologies were classified into five categories, and the product attributes commonly considered were examined by technology type, revealing important variations across technologies.
  • Limitations of TPPs were identified and grouped into three categories: limitations in TPP design and application, limitations related to study design, and gaps in scientific evidence and knowledge.
  • Follow-up activities after TPP development are needed, including additional scientific research, implementation and feasibility studies, and regular updating of TPPs to maintain their relevance.
