Ex-post health economic evaluation of maternal acellular pertussis vaccination in Thailand and factors influencing vaccine access
Ex-post health economic evaluation of maternal acellular pertussis vaccination in Thailand and factors influencing vaccine access
About Project
This project evaluates Thailand’s maternal acellular pertussis vaccination policy after its inclusion in the Universal Health Coverage benefit package. Although the vaccine is available free of charge, uptake among pregnant women remained low in 2024. The study combines health economic modelling, budget impact analysis, and quantitative and qualitative research with healthcare workers and pregnant women to assess vaccine value, implementation barriers, and factors affecting access. Findings highlight that improving coverage requires more than reimbursement alone; clear communication, provider confidence, reliable vaccine supply, and facility-level support are also essential. The project aims to inform future vaccine policy, improve equitable access for pregnant women, and support efficient use of public health resources in Thailand.
