Carbon Quest: Gamifying Pro-Environment Life Choices

About Project

Content

Climate change, driven by escalating greenhouse gas emissions, poses a critical threat to human health and survival. Individual lifestyle choices play a vital role in mitigating this crisis, and gamification has emerged as a promising strategy to drive environmental awareness and behavioural change. To this end, we developed Carbon Quest, a bilingual (Thai/English) educational game designed to quantify and reduce carbon footprints through interactive player engagement. Using country-specific emission factors and real-time activity inputs, the game calculates each player’s emissions profile and benchmarks it against population averages. Data from nearly 1,000 players revealed an average emission of 7.8 kg CO₂ per session and identified key activity-based emission hotspots. Carbon Quest offers a user-friendly tool to engage individuals in understanding and reducing their carbon footprint through daily choices.
