Strengthening capacity for Health Economics and Technology Assessment to support health decision-making in Meghalaya and the North East Region of India

About Project

Content

The North Eastern Region (NER) of India is strengthening its capacity in Health Economics and Health Technology Assessment (HTA), and to generate and use evidence to inform equitable and efficient health policy and resource allocation.

This programme of work, in collaboration with IIPH Shillong and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Meghalaya, builds on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and, with support from the Gates Foundation, will seek to better understand and strengthen the institutional ecosystem using evidence for health policy by generating policy-relevant research, fostering stakeholder engagement, and mentoring and conducting collaborative research opportunities with IIPH Shillong. This is part of two complementary and mutually reinforcing components, with one led by IIPH Shillong to develop human capacity through structured fellowships, postgraduate training, and academic mentorship.

By the end of the programme, the partnership is expected to create a sustainable pathway from capacity development to policy impact, ultimately strengthening regional leadership and institutional capacity for HTA and evidence-informed health decision-making in Meghalaya and more broadly, in the NER of India.
