The Climate Shocks & Health Systems Nexus: Impact of Flooding on Maternal and Child Health in Hat Yai, Thailand
About Project
Flooding poses significant challenges to maternal and child health by disrupting healthcare access, interrupting essential services, and increasing financial vulnerability among affected families. Understanding these impacts is critical to strengthening health system resilience and ensuring continuity of essential maternal and child healthcare during climate-related emergencies.
This project investigates the impacts of flooding on maternal and child health in Hat Yai, Songkhla Province, Thailand, using large-scale secondary healthcare utilization and expenditure data, climate and flood-related information, and geographic information systems (GIS). By examining changes in healthcare service utilization, access to care, and healthcare expenditures before, during, and after flood events, the project aims to assess how flooding affects the delivery and use of essential maternal and child health services, as well as the associated financial implications for healthcare systems and patients.
